Notarized translation of documents

Due to expansion of Russia’s ties with foreign countries, there is an increasing need for official translation of documents.

There is often the need for notarization of translations.

An official translation can be in two versions, namely:

1. If the notary in Russia has a good command of the foreign language on which the document is written or into which the document is to be translated, that notary can on its own translate the document and certify the translation.

2. If the notary has no good command of the foreign language on which the document is written or into which the document is to be translated, the document can be translated by a translator, and the translator’s signature authenticated by the notary.

When does a translator’s signature on a translated document need to be authenticated?

  • If during notarial acts (drafting of a contract, will, Power of Attorney, etc.), it becomes clear that the person does not know Russian language under which the notarial paperwork is being conducted.
  • If apart from notarial acts, the original document needs to be translated into a foreign language.
  • If documents intended for use outside Russia need to be translated.
  • If documents intended for use in Russia need to be translated.

It should not be forgotten that documents executed and issued in a foreign country must be properly legalized in order for them to have legal force within the territory of the Russian Federation.

Our company offers services on notarization of a translator’s signature on a document. We can authenticate a translator’s signature on a translation of a document legalized (or apostilled) in the appropriate manner, and on a translation of a non-legalized (non-apostilled) document, as well as on a translation of an ordinary photocopy of a document (photocopy of a passport, birth certificate, certificate of marriage, certificate of name change, a company’s Articles of Association, etc.).
In addition, our company offers services on notarization of translations provided by the customer. In this case, the translation must be correctly executed. It must be provided in an electronic form.

Our Moscow-based translation agency, Impression, certifies translations by placing the translator’s signature and our seal/stamp on the translations.

You can find here more information about the cost of notarizing a translator’s signature affixed on a translated copy of a document and the cost of certifying a translation using our seal/stamp.
